SARC and KCA strive to be actively involved in public awareness campaigns and projects to bring attention to issues affecting our community.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Annual Event has been a part of the Spectrum Sunshine Festival in Medicine Hat, AB since June 2011. The 9th annual event will take place Saturday June 3rd, 2017. With statistics showing that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be affected by sexual violence before the age of 18, this event raises awareness to these facts and raises fund to help SARC continue to offer services to individuals who have experienced sexual violence. Men are encouraged to put on a pair of our red high heels (or their choice of ladies’ footwear) and “walk a mile in her shoes” to display their support to end violence against women and children. The signs carried represent true experiences of our clients. We appreciate and admire their courage to allow us to share their stories.

One Billion Rising
The One Billion Rising Campaign began as a “call to action” to raise awareness to the fact that 1 in 3 women in the world will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. Women (and men) are encouraged to “rise up” every year on February 14th to show solidarity and say “NO MORE!” View pictures of past campaigns on our Facebook page.

#IBelieveYou is a provincial campaign by the Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Services (AASAS). It was created to help you understand the powerful role you can play in the life of a sexual assault survivor and our community. Survivors who get a positive response when they tell someone are more likely to get help and seek justice. That makes your community healthier and safer for everyone.
You can help break the silence with three simple words: I believe you.
